Welcome to the Queer Board Gamers of Salt Lake City! We're a fun, welcoming community for LGBTQ+ individuals who love board games!
We started as a small group on Meetup in May 2021 in Sandy, Utah, and have since expanded to Murray and Salt Lake City. Our mission is simple: to provide a space where people can come together, enjoy games, and take a break from the usual bar and app scene.
At QBGSLC, we host two public meetups every month where we gather to play board games, enjoy snacks, and make new connections. Whether you’re into strategy games, party games, or just want to chill with a longer game, everyone’s welcome to bring their favorite games to share.
We also love mixing things up with occasional private events—from karaoke and video game parties to role-playing games and even escape rooms! The vibe is always laid-back and relaxed, so if you're new to the community, you'll feel right at home. Note: Private events are only posted on our Discord.
We’re all about inclusion, fun, and making new friends. Whether you're a board game pro or a beginner, you'll find a friendly and supportive space here at QBGSLC!
Keep It Friendly, Fun, and Civil
We’re here to foster connections in Utah’s queer community, especially by playing board games! Keep the atmosphere light, enjoyable, and respectful online and in-person.
No Hate Speech or Discrimination
This group is meant to be a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Hate speech, harassment, or discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation will not be tolerated.
This is a Platonic Community
This group is for platonic interactions only. Romantic and/or sexual solicitations during events or on our social platforms are prohibited. What happens between consenting adults outside of our events is their business.
Respect Personal Boundaries
Consent is mandatory in all interactions. If someone expresses discomfort, stop the behavior immediately.
Respect the Venue
When attending in-person events respect the venue and its rules. Remember that by participating, you represent our group.
Respect each other's Belongings
We ask that all members show respect for each other's personal belongings and games. Please take care not to bend, break, or damage cards, pieces, or components from someone else's game. If damage does occur, we expect the parties involved to handle the situation directly and work out an appropriate resolution.
Reporting Issues
If you encounter any behavior that violates these rules, report it to the attending Admin at the venue, or reach out to us on our Contact page.
Keep Up to Date
These rules may be updated!
How do I join QBGSLC?
Just show up! Yes, it's always preferred that individuals RSVP on our Meetup or Discord, but there's no paperwork or official process to joining.
Is there a membership fee?
Nope! Just keep in mind that you are responsible for your own cost of admission at any venues requiring it, as well as your own food and beverage purchases.
Do I need to bring my own board games?
While it is not necessary to bring your own board games, we do encourage members to bring games with them so we can keep a variety at hand.
Can I organize an event?
Certainly! If you're interested in organizing and hosting an informal event, you may do so on our Discord. If you want to become an Event Organizer or an Admin, you can apply to be one on our Contact page.
Can I invite a friend?
Absolutely! Just keep in mind that if the event is at someone's residence, you may want to inform them of your +1. Otherwise, if you RSVP over Meetup, there's usually an option to add a +1.
How do we find you at venues?
Look for the rainbows. Seriously, we usually have small table stands with rainbow signs saying "Players Wanted", and our admins often wear rainbow lanyards. We'll also have some board games set aside and name tags as well.
What should I bring to events?
As mentioned earlier, we do implore you to bring at least one board game. Otherwise, it depends on the venue. Oasis Games is fine if we bring food in or purchase their snacks. 2 Row Brewing is a bar, so no outside food is allowed. For private events, usually the host will specify.
Can I bring my kids?
Our events are 18+ only. No exceptions.
Are you a non-profit?
No. We are an interest group that is funded entirely out of our own pockets.
I don't like my picture taken. What can I do if my picture appears on your public sites?
We understand discretion and safety is important to our members and make an attempt to ensure everyone in the vicinity is comfortable with having a picture taken. Nevertheless, mistakes happen. If there's an image of you that you want removed (or edited out of), please reach out to us on our Contact page.
Do I need to live in Salt Lake City to participate?
Nope! About half of our events occur in SLC, and the other half are in Midvale. If our event is within your travel range, you may attend. That said, we would like to keep our Discord strictly to Utah residents only.
I'm not great with board games, but I want to make new friends. Do I have to play if I attend?
Certainly not! If you just want to show up and hang out, that's A-OK. We usually have some brain teaser puzzles on a nearby table that members enjoy playing with (at out Oasis events).
